1. Replace kitchen countertops
Upgrading your kitchen’s work surfaces is an affordable project because there are several beautiful, budget-friendly options to choose from, including HD laminate, tile, concrete, and more. Complement the new surface by upgrading cabinet hardware, or adding new hardware if none existed before.
2. Age-in-place upgrades
If you plan to stay in your home for the foreseeable future, now’s the time to start considering age-in-place upgrades. Check the AARP’s Bathroom Checklist to discover things you may need to add to help enable you to live in your home safely for years to come. These can include installation of a wider entry doors, rocker light switches, grab bars, hand-held shower heads, and more.
3. Brush on a new look
Paint is one of the most inexpensive home improvement projects and it makes the biggest impact! Most manufacturers offer samples for testing out new colors, as well as special formulations and tools for adding texture. Additionally, adding moldings, such as crown, chair rails and other trims, can give you a custom look on a budget.

Warm-weather leisure is more enjoyable with comfortable outdoor areas made for entertaining and relaxing. Building a small deck or a patio can provide the outdoor space you want and also increase your home’s value. You may also consider updating landscaping to add additional visual interest outdoors.

Rising heating costs make energy efficient home upgrades all the more valuable. Reduce inefficiency and enhance home comfort by sealing all HVAC along the seams and connections with duct sealant (mastic) or metal-backed tape (not duct tape), followed by insulation wrap.
